DocuDay

DocuDay 2012
IDA's all-day, back-to-back screenings of this year's
Oscar® nominated documentary films.

See the films! Meet the filmmakers!
DocuDay Los Angeles
Saturday, February 25
Writers Guild of America Theater
135 S. Doheny Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90211

Out of all of our Saturday excursions, this has been my favorite.  We just returned from viewing three of the short films nominated for an Oscar (the other two nominated films in this category will be shown this evening). We would've loved to have stayed all day, but couldn't since Walter had surgery earlier this week.)

These are the films we saw and what DocuDay had posted about each film:

 Incident in New Baghdad
James Spione

.  Incident in New Baghdad

This provocative documentary examines one of the most notorious incidents of the Iraq War-the July 2007 slayings of two Reuters journalists and a number of unarmed civilians by U.S. attack helicopters. It is recounted in the testimony of an American infantryman whose life was profoundly changed by his experiences on the scene. "

God is the Bigger Elvis
Rebecca Cammisa and Julie Anderson

God is the Bigger Elvis

"This documentary examines the life of actress Dolores Hart, best known for her roles opposite Elvis Presley and the teen romance Where the Boys Are, who decided to leave Hollywood and become a Benedictine nun in 1963"

The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom
Lucy Walker and Kira Carstensen
"Survivors in the area hardest hit by Japan’s recent tsunami find the courage to revive and rebuild as cherry blossom season begins. This film is a visual poem about the ephemeral nature of life and the healing process of Japan’s most beloved flower."

After completion of the three films, there was a question and answer session with the filmmakers and with Ethan McCord, the former Army Specialist. All three films had powerful messages-  I'm glad I don't have to vote for which one was the best.

We're returning at 10:30 p.m. to watch Undefeated- nominated for Documentary Feature Film.  It's about three underprivileged student-athletes from inner-city Memphis and with both Steve and I having roots in Memphis, we really wanted to see it.
Next year we plan to get  a ticket for Walter to attend Doggie Day Care and we will get a day's pass to attend DocuDay for the entire day!
